Family Learning Center was the result of several parents and community members who were concerned about pre school education in the Espanola Valley. In 1980, there were no preschools. These community members, including Esta Diamond Gutierrez and Dotty Sanchez with parents created a non profit organization.
The first Board of Directors partnered with the City of Espanola and rented a room in the Lucero Center and Family Learning Center began to hold classes in 1980! Parents were very happy about this new offering and Family Learning Center has been an important part of the education landscape since then.
Family Learning Center located at Northern New Mexico College for a few years and finally made arrangements to purchase its present location around 2000. Currently, Family Learning Center partners with New Mexico Early Childhood Education and Care Department to offer free Preschool classes for 3 and 4 year olds. FLC offers full day child care on a tuition basis.
Family Learning Center is a 5 Star (the highest rating) Licensed Center through NMECECD. We also have accreditation through the National Association for the Education of the Young Child. These two ratings show our dedication to quality preschool education.
